How Siyavula's Afrikaans translation works

Afrikaans Tanslation of grade 8 and 9 Maths content

The grade level practice content for Grade 8 & 9 Maths is now translated into Afrikaans. This means that learners can now choose whether to see translated Maths questions in English or Afrikaans.

Learners can either update their preferred language on their profile or change language every time they encounter a translated question.

Updating the preferred language on the profile:

  1. After logging in, on your Siyavula Learner Home page, click on your name at the bottom left to view your profile.

  1. On your profile, click on Update my details.

  1. Under Preferred language for questions, click on Afrikaans and then save.

After updating the language, the grade 8 and 9 Table of Contents on learner practice dashboard will be in Afrikaans.

Changing the language of the question while practicing

When practicing, look out for **Choose a language ** toggle above the question (when using a cellphone) or on the right hand-side (when using a computer). This can be used to see the exact same version of the question in either language.

The Siyavula team is continuously developing questions. If a learner comes across a question which has not yet been translated, it will display in English, with a helpful note that it has not yet been translated. If they have chosen Afrikaans as their language of preference on the profile the next translated question they see will be displayed in Afrikaans.

Revision or remediation content is not yet translated.

If your learner encounters content that has not yet been translated while practising Grade 8 or 9 Maths there are a few possible reasons:

  1. The learner may be practising in one of the Grade 8 Maths revision sections, which are currently only available in English. Learn more about revision sections here
  2. The learner is taken to remediation content during regular practice by the algorithm as a just-in-time intervention because they appear to be struggling with a section. That remediation content is only available in English.
