How the #1MillionMaths campaign works

Siyavula's annual #1MillionMaths campaign runs towards the end of the school year and aims to encourage learners to prepare for their end-of-year exams. Practice is essential for learning, especially in Mathematics and Physical Sciences. This campaign motivates learners to adopt a goal-directed, mastery-focused approach to their studies. During the month the campaign is run, learners and schools who opt in can earn prizes for their hard work on our platform.

Prizes for #1MillionMaths

Learners earn an entry into the daily draw for every mastery star they achieve in a day. They stand a chance to win a voucher.
We will award schools a prize at the end of the month, for the work that learners did during the campaign.
At the end of the campaign month, learners in our Platinum and Gold Leagues will be invited to join a final showdown, to pit their skills against learners across the country.

How to make sure you're eligible to win

To be eligible for prizes, learners must opt in to the #1MillionMaths campaign. Once they have opted in, their names will appear on our public leaderboards.
Learners must make sure that they are in the correct grade. Prizes will only be awarded to learners who practice in their own grade.
Teachers need to enter their schools into #1MillionMaths to be eligible for prizes. Once they have opted in, the teacher and school's names will appear on our public leaderboards.

It’s easy to sign up to Siyavula.

Visit our Siyavula website at https://www.siyavula.com
Click on Sign up for a free account under Siyavula for learners

On the Let's get started page, select that you are signing up as a learner.
You can sign-up using any of the extensions listed (Facebook, Snapplify, Clever, Microsoft or Google) or you can select either your email address or Phone number.

Enter your personal details:
Name
Surname
Password (create a new password)
email address or Mobile number or both.
Click on **continue **

Select your correct Grade
Select your Subject(s)
Start typing in the name of your school and select it from the list when it appears.
Set your date of birth
Select your Language of learning.

Rules for the Headstart campaign

|| General rules **

The campaign will start on Monday 10 February 2025, and end on Thursday, 13 March 2025.
Learners need to opt in to Headstart, to be eligible for prizes.
If a learner has already opted in to participate in our national leaderboards, they will automatically be opted in to Headstart.
The competition will reward both Maths and Science practice.
To be eligible for a prize, learners must be in their correct grade.
Learners must be at school in Grades 8 - 12, to be eligible to enter Headstart.
A learner’s registered school, grade, and contact details must be current and correct to be eligible for a prize.
If a learner can’t be reached using the provided contact details, we will attempt to contact the school. If we are unsuccessful, the learner will forfeit the prize.
Voucher prizes will be delivered directly to winners via their Siyavula inbox.
Physical prizes will be delivered directly to the school.
Siyavula will not liaise or communicate with parents under any circumstances, concerning learner prizes. ** || Weekly draw for learners **
Any high school Mathematics or Physical Sciences learner at a school in South Africa is eligible to enter.
For the duration of the campaign, any learner who achieves their weekly goal for one or more subjects, set using the goals widget on Siyavula, will be entered into that week's draw. Prize winners will be announced the following Monday.

University of Witwatersrand Pre-University Online Courses for Mathematics and Chemistry

Many students struggle with their first year Mathematics and Chemistry modules, even when they have passed well in grade 12. To help you succeed in your first year Mathematics and Chemistry courses, Wits is running the pre-university online courses in Mathematics and Chemistry through the Siyavula online platform. These courses are carefully designed by Wits lecturers, and they will help you make a strong start to the academic year. The duration of the pre-university course is ** 11 to 28 January 2024**.

||| The pre-university Mathematics and Chemistry courses are free, voluntary, and completing them will not affect whether you are admitted to Wits in 2024.
